Project Background
This project involved the replacement of a storm-damaged fence at a residential property on Auckland’s North Shore.
After the fence was damaged during bad weather, the homeowner needed a practical solution completed quickly to restore privacy, safety and security for the property and its tenants.
Although the fencing issue involved a neighbouring boundary, the cost-sharing arrangement between the neighbouring property and the homeowner had not been agreed. Rather than delaying the work further, the homeowner instructed DCW Services to proceed with the fence replacement at their own cost so the property could be made secure and usable again.
DCW Services was engaged to remove the damaged fencing, clear the affected area where required, and install a new fence in line with the homeowner’s instructions.
Our Fence Replacement Process
-
1. Site Assessment
We inspected the damaged fence and surrounding area to assess the condition of the existing structure and confirm what was required to reinstate the fence safely.
The storm damage had left the fencing unsuitable to remain as it was, especially with tenants occupying the property.
-
2. Scope Confirmation
The homeowner confirmed they wanted the fence replaced without waiting for a cost-sharing agreement with the neighbouring property.
This allowed the project to move forward quickly and helped avoid further delays for the tenants.
-
3. Clearance For New Fence
Debris and overhanging greenery were removed from the area to allow clearance for the new fence.
-
4. New Fence Installation
A new timber fence was installed to restore privacy, security and separation between the properties.
The work was completed with a practical focus on getting the fence reinstated properly and within a short timeframe.
-
5. Final Check & Handover
Once the new fence was installed, the area was checked and the completed work was handed over.
The property was left with a secure, tidy and functional fence suitable for the tenant’s needs.

Challenges & How We Solved Them
Storm Damage Requiring Prompt Repair
The existing fence had been damaged during bad weather, leaving the property exposed and in need of repair.
We assessed the damage, confirmed the replacement scope and completed the new fence installation in under one week.
Boundary Cost-Sharing Was Not Agreed
The fencing issue involved a neighbouring boundary, but the neighbouring property contribution had not been agreed at the time.
To avoid delaying the work, the homeowner chose to proceed at their own cost. We followed the homeowner’s instructions and completed the fence replacement so the property could be secured for the tenants.
Debris and Existing Fence Condition
The damaged fence and surrounding area required clearing before the new fence could be installed.
Because of the condition of the old fence line and debris in the area, the new fence was installed slightly set back from the original boundary area, as instructed by the homeowner.
Project Results
Storm-Damaged Fence Replaced
The damaged fence was removed and replaced with a new timber fence, restoring the property’s boundary separation.
Privacy & Security Restored
The new fence helped improve privacy and security for the tenants and made the exterior area more usable again.
Fast Turnaround Completed
The project was completed in under one week, helping the homeowner avoid ongoing delays after the storm damage.
Practical Solution Provided
Rather than waiting for the neighbouring cost-sharing issue to be resolved, the homeowner chose to proceed independently so the fence could be reinstated quickly.
